2 rolls

I am taking this class at the ICP for the next 9 weeks. I hadn’t planned to take it, well for one the cost was high. I still had to be home by 3:30 p.m for the bus and a million more excuses. I forwarded the email to the Mr. and he said “go ahead sign up and we’ll make it work”. If I wasn’t already so much in love that would do it. Marrying him was one of the best decisions I ever made…but I digress.

So last week was my first class. I arrived an hour early and I was so impressed to walk into the ICP. I mean real artists work there, people who actually know what they’re doing. What can I say, if heaven exists I think I got to spend a couple of hours in it. We were shown around the facility, got to play with a crazy selection of cameras. I am talking hassles, Leica, Pentax, Contax…a film camera feast. Then came the tour of the lab, the smell of chemicals and oh the prospect of developing my own film. I am sure that those of you who are into photography will get it for all the rest imagine visiting the Mecca of whatever passion you have. Yes and it was even better than that. I will get to spend time there for the next 9 weeks and I suspect I will be asking for another class as a mother day gift, my birthday, our anniversary…The arguments are being prepared and well it will always be cheaper than setting up a darkroom in the basement.

My first assignment is to shoot two rolls of film, any subject of my choosing. As simple as it gets…well not really.I’ve been raking my brain for “the idea”, I am at D-1 and I still have a whole roll of film to shoot. 36 exposures, 36 chances to silence the critic and just get the work done.

Time to get the shutter clicking, I will share some of my work as soon as I figure out how to scan the negatives .
