Organizing my knitting needles

I have been knitting for a while now so my knitting needles collection has expanded and changed a little over the years. I started with straight wooden needles then realized they were not the most convenient to store in your purse for on the go knitting. I then moved on to circular needles. First bamboo then metal, wood and a combination of both. Once I had more than a couple I looked for a storage solution. I picked up a hanging knitting holder at my local yarn store (it kind of looked like this). It was hanging on my studio/office door but I wasn’t too thrilled about it but considering the money I paid for it I just kept it.

A couple of weeks ago I decided to address the dangling noisy mess that the holder had become. I searched on Pinterest and couldn’t really find something I liked and that I was willing to pay for.

The idea came to me while I was shopping for back to school for the children. I saw these pencil pouches at Target for 75 cents and I already had a simple 2inch binder at home. The whole project would come up to less than $20 if you have to buy the binder.

Each purple pouch contains a size of circular needles and the red ones the DPN’s. I added some scrapbooking paper to the front, back and spine to “prettify” it and I used one of Martha Stewart’s adhesive metal plates to label it.

I have been using it for the past 2 1/2 months and I think it is really what works for me. Organized, hidden and small enough to fit on my shelves with my crafting books. Now I need to come up with a solution for my crochet hooks.

How do you like it?
